What We Believe

Our Beliefs

Bellfield Baptist Church believes

In being as relevant as today's newspaper while holding to the timeless teachings of Jesus Christ. God loves us...unconditionally...and continues to invite us to follow Him. In Jesus Christ, that He is God's one and only Son. The Bible is a flawless handbook that helps us succeed in life and gives straight answers for issues relating to work, family, relationships, and anything else we encounter. Effective life change begins when we follow Jesus. Each person has a gift, ability, or experience that can help others.

About God

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three equally and fully divine persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

Genesis 1:1, 26, 27; 3:22 || Psalm 90:2 || Matthew 28:19 || 1 Peter 1:2 || 2 Corinthians 13:14

About You

You are made in the spiritual image of God to be like Him in character. You are the supreme object of God's creation and love. Although you have tremendous potential for good, you are marred by an attitude of disobedience towards God called "sin." This attitude separates you from God until the relationship is restored through a personal commitment to Jesus Christ.

Genesis 1:27 || Psalms 8:3-6 || Isaiah 53:6 || Romans 3:23 || Isaiah 59: 1-2

About Eternity

Humans were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence.

John 3:16 || 1 John 2:25; 5:11-13 || Romans 6:23 || Revelation 20:15

About Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

Matthew 1:22-23 || Isaiah 9:6 || John 1:1-5; 14:10-30 || Hebrews 4:14-15 || 1 Corinthians 15: 3-4 || Romans 1:3-4 || Acts 1:9-11 || 2 Timothy 6:14-15 || Titus 2:13

About Salvation

Salvation is a gift from God to humanity. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can we be saved from sin's penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

Romans 6:23 || Ephesians 2:8-9 || John 14:6; 1:12 || Titus 3:5 || Galatians 3:26 || Romans 5:1

About Eternal Security

Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is grace and keeping power of God that gives this security.

John 10:29 || 2 Timothy 1:12 || Hebrews 7:25; 10:10-14 || 1 Peter 1:3-5

About The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding ofspiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily.

2 Corinthians 3:17 || John 16:7-13; 14:16-17 || Acts 1:8 || 2 Corinthians 2:12; 3:16 || Ephesians 1:13 || Galatians 5:25 || Ephesians 5:18

About The Bible

The Bible is God's Word to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error.

2 Timothy 3:16 || 2 Peter 1:20-21 || 2 Timothy 1:13 || Psalms 119:105, 160; 12:6 || Proverbs 30:5

Bellfield Baptist Church is a place…

  • To be yourself.
  • To ask tough questions and get honest answers.
  • To meet new friends and build authentic relationships.
  • To grow spiritually and relationally.
  • To make a difference locally and globally by serving others.

At Bellfield Baptist Church ...

  1. We believe God has spoken through the Bible and we recognize it as the final authority for our lives
     So we ask are your priorities consistent with Scripture?

  2. We believe God desires an intimate relationship with each of us.
    So we ask is your relationship with God growing?

  3. We believe the church should be culturally relevant.

    So we ask are the environments you serve in appealing, engaging, and  helpful?

  4. We believe accountability, belonging, care, and spiritual growth happen best within the context of relationally-connected Christ-followers.

    So we ask are you in a Bible Group?

  5. We believe giving our best honors God and inspires people.

    So we ask are you giving God your best?

  6. We believe our abilities and gifts have maximum impact when humbly exercised in tandem with others to support our vision and strategy.

    So we ask where are you serving?

  7. We believe lost people matter to God and that His message of forgiveness is most effectively conveyed within the context of personal relationships.

    So we ask who are you investing in?

As a community of Christ followers, Bellfield Baptist Church has designated three aspects we consider vital to living out the church's purpose and values in our personal, daily lives.

Every Sunday we come worship God. We stand together as a family of faith — to praise God for His goodness, to hear relevant truth from His Word, to encourage one another to rely on Christ. Here, in worship, we see God at work among us. We express our value of God over us as we seek His truth over our opinions. He is our supreme guide.

Bible Groups

We believe that no one pursues Christ in isolation. The journey of following Christ is done in community. We want to intentionally engage in Bible groups that routinely provide an environment for spiritual transformation — a place where we are challenged by the Scriptures, where we openly share our lives and our struggles, and we pray for one another. Here we find spiritually encouraging relationships as we value God’s people over programs.

Serving can be defined as “giving of my resources for the benefit of others.” It can be done inside or outside the church walls. This is where we live out our value of God’s mission over our comfort.

We exist to encourage people to connect with God in worship, commit to grow closer to God in Bible groups and as we experience God’s uncommon love of another kind we are compelled to go serve and share Christ’s love with the disconnected, locally and globally.

Our Measure

We expect that as we follow God’s leading, we will each see clear evidence of His work. We want to be a community that perpetually asks the following questions of one another, because we believe they prompt us to evaluate our values, to extend the invitation, and to remember our salvation.

Who are you inviting into conversations about Jesus?

Where are you desperately dependent on Jesus?

When have you taken a risk because of Jesus?

How are you experiencing “unexpected joy” from Jesus?
